To help identify the use case, ask yourself these three important questions:

1) Will the signage be positioned indoors or outdoors?
2) What is the viewing distance?
3) What type of content will be on display?

LCD is often the best solution in instances where the viewing distance is less than 20 metres and the content is corporate spreadsheet type data.

LED is often the best solution for outdoor displays although high brightness LCD displays can be used for menu boards with weather protection. Unlike most electronics, LED screens can be water-resistant and are not confined to set sizes or shapes. Displays can be straight or curved, square, or rectangular, large or small, you can achieve the exact look you need which adds impact*.

3 x Rule - is a shorthand method for calculating an approximate estimate of the Visual Acuity Distance. The calculation is: Pixel pitch x 3 = approximate viewing distance in metres

*A fine pixel pitch LED display is much more expensive than the equivalently sized and higher resolution, LCD display because materials and production costs are higher for fine pixel pitch LED since more LED clusters are required to create the higher pixel density. A typical 55” 4K UHD LCD display has a pixel pitch of approximately 0.315mm whereas Ultra Fine Pitch LED is twice that, at approximately 0.6 - 0.7mm.

BrightSign XT media player offers a high performance, no compromise, immersive 4K digital signage experience using a dedicated Signage OS that eliminates the possibility of Windows messages or the dreaded “blue screen of death” ever being displayed. Only a single player is required which avoids issues from having to sync multiple players.
